DAM Update

In a previous post, I mentioned that I'm looking at a few Digital Asset Management options. Specifically, I am working with Filemaker's Bento and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to see which will work for me, what the issues are going to be, pitfalls, good points, must haves and so forth.

I'm just about ready to post a long series on my findings on my Forensic Lightroom blog.

Stay tuned.

Adobe Creative Suite 3.3 - the update

It figures. Not too long after I pull the plug on my WinXP machines and invest in the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection for Mac, they announce an upgrade - Creative Suite 3.3.

The good news is that it will only cost an additional $159 to upgrade from my new software. For the upgrade price, I'll get Acrobat 9 Pro - which offers some interesting new functionality. I'm looking forward to trying out its Acrobat Connect functionality for sharing, collaborating, or reviewing documents in real-time.

Speaking of which, I am currently working out the details of the first of a series of free Acrobat Connect Sessions to be hosted by your humble host and Rick Miller, Photoshop and Lightroom guru from Adobe. If it all works out, the first session will kick off in the first week of July. So stay tuned as this new feature is developed. NaTIA members can see Rick in action during the pre-conference sessions at Adobe. You should have received the sign-up materials already. Get those in soon. There are only so many seats available. When they are gone ... they are gone. Make sure that you get in on this opportunity to get your training from Adobe - at Adobe.

Lightroom eSeminar

You are invited to join the good folks at Adobe for this eSeminar on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom this Friday, May 30th, at 1pm PST.

Click on the image below for the details on how to access the Connect session. I am curious to see how well attended this session will be. Based on attendance, we may schedule other Connect sessions in the future.

Digital Asset Management

The topic of Digital Asset Management has come up from time to time. How does one manage digital assets in a small agency? How about a large enterprise? What role does metadata play? What do you (meaning me) use in your workflow?

Some agencies incorporate their images in their overall record management system. But, in talking with folks from large and small agencies, as well as privateers, there seems to be no single solution that works for everyone.

I'm looking at Adobe's Lightroom from the standpoint of it's Library functionality. I'm also looking at Bento, Filemaker's personal database application (Mac only). You might be familiar with Lightroom, but who's heard of Bento outside of the small Mac community? The more I look into Bento, the more I like what I see.

With that in mind, what do you use to manage all of your assets? I'd be interested in knowing what else is out there.
